Day by day our lives tend to become busy, getting stuck in web of more responsibilities, more work, more liabilities, leading to a chaotic type of situation leading to a very less time for us to live and enjoy. All this have made the lives of most of people boring and tiring and full of fatigue with no relief at all. But if we want then we can live few moments of our life with full of joy so that the memories of those few pleasant moments keep us energetic for a long time, and this can happen if we try to make some moments free from our busy schedule.
I was lucky one as somehow I got some free days from my busy schedule and planned to enjoy these seven days as much as possible. Finally I decided to go on tour to a good tourist destination either in India or abroad, and later we decided to go for Kerala as there are so many exciting and wonderful tourist places in Kerala. And really our decision to tour Kerala proved to be a very nice decision. In fact after this tour to Kerala, I will say that this place is not behind than any other places in the world, and that is why it is called as “God’s Own Country”. There are so many exciting things and tourism features which we can enjoy in Kerala; during my Kerala tour I have known so many wonderful tourist places in Kerala, and many exciting tourism facts about Kerala, like few of them I am mentioning below.
Backwaters of Kerala: The backwaters of Kerala, parallel to the Arabian Sea is widely famous in the world for its scenic backwaters and locations, house boats cruise, and wonderful resorts along these backwaters, and as a perfect honeymoon and holiday destination. Alleppey, Allapuzha, Kumarakom, Kollam, Kochi strength, the strength of Bekal, Vallapattanam, etc. are the best backwaters holiday destinations of Kerala. Among these locations Allepey is also known as ‘Venice of the East’ in the world, which is one of the best tourist places of Kerala. These placid backwaters stretch across 1500 kilometers in the state and are covered with swinging palm trees.
House Boats of Kerala: Kerala house boats are also known as “Kettuvalloms”. House boat cruise or houseboat ride is the best way to experience breathtaking and beautiful backwaters which consist of a complex network of brackish water lagoons, lovely lakes and canals spread over a long strip of back waters along the Malabar Coast. Kerala Houseboats are country made boats that are the most famous attractions of these backwaters that can be seen floating leisurely over the picturesque backwaters.
These iconic houseboats which measures from 20-25 meters in length and 4 to 5 meters in width, are made using natural products and eco-friendly materials only, like woods, etc. No plastics, iron, steel or any other synthetic material is used to construct these boats. The lush green surrounding, rippling waters, swinging palm trees, picturesque lakes, lush green paddy fields and the beautiful villages views from the houseboats feast the eyes of the tourists and leaves them numb and spell bound at least for some time.
Beaches of Kerala: Kerala has a coastline of more than 350 miles on the south west coast of India and faces Arabian Sea. This wide strip of coastline is also called as “Malabar Coast”. Along this coast there are countless no of wonderful pristine and beautiful beaches which are the perfect holiday locations for a family to enjoy their precious moments of life creating sand castle, sand house, sandman on the beach.
Alppuzha Beach, Cherai Beach, Marari Beach, Ezhimala Beach, Mararikulam, Vijaya, Bekal, strength Kochi, Varkala, Kappa Payyoli, Varkala, Vadanapalli, Kappad and Kovalam Beach are some of the best beaches and tourist places in Kerala where you can enjoy lots of activities like sun bathing, collecting shells, building sand castles with your family or can enjoy many water sports which you will not forget in the coming years of your life.
Hill Stations of Kerala: Eastern Kerala consists of hilly areas covered by Western Ghats having semi evergreen type of vegetation; this region includes high mountains, gorges, deep-cut valleys, and lush jungles. Kerala also hosts world famous wetland also known as Ramsar Convention Wetlands that is Vembanad Wetlands. In wildlife we can see Bengal Tiger, Asian Elephants, Leopards, Nilgiri Tahr, Grizzled Giant Squirrel, and many more exotic species of fauna. In Kerala there are numerous protected areas like Nilgiri Biosphere Reserves, Silent Valley National Park which are also some of the best tourist places in Kerala,
where we can observe more exotic wild life such as Sambhar Deer, Lion Tailed Macaque, Chital Deer, Indian Porcupine, Swamp Lynx, Flying Squirrel, King Cobra, and many others.
Ayurveda Spa in Kerala: As most of us know that Ayurveda is the oldest and most developed life science of natural healing in the world. The purpose of Ayurveda is to bring about the perfect balance of the entire personality - body, mind and the spirit. Kerala is famous for its Ayurvedic Spas among Indian as well as tourists from all over the world and thus Ayurvedic Spas have become popular for light massages and pleasure treatments. But it is always better to go for a registered ayurveda and spa resort for getting any massage or treatement.
Delicious Local Food of Kerala: Kerala is well known for its variety of delicious food worldwide, and lots of tourists savor the local food of Kerala. Being the coastal place, sea food and coconut made dishes are dominant in the local food dishes. There are lots of dishes made using coconut and sea products.
Although there are lots of popular dishes and food which are very popular in Kerala but Puttu, Idli, Dosa, Pidiyan, Idiyappam, Paal-Appam, payasam, rasam, sambharam, pappadam, etc are the most delicious dishes of the Kerala which one should try not to miss. The other one is the sadhya, which is very popular and is served especially during festive occasion and normally presented upon a plain leaf of banana tree; and generally up to 24 items are served and is accompanied by various desserts and sweets. If you are not lucky enough to savour sadhya, no problem, most of the restaurants, hotels also offer an alternative to sadhya, as a meal option. In this meal you would not get all 24 items but you will get around 4-10 tasty curries (depending on the price) along with pickles and pappadams and a payasam. Local Festivals of Kerala: Like other places Kerala is also famous for its unique festivals which are celebrated all over the Kerala with utmost enthusiasm, spirit and joy. The people who visit Kerala during any festival can also enjoy the colors and fun of these festivals. Among the festivals of Kerala, major one are Vishu, which is celebrated in the month of the April. Navaratri is celebrated in the month of September-October. Onam is celebrated in the month of the August-September. Christmas is also celebrated with great Spirit as Christian population is also significant in Kerala.
Onam is a ten day festival which is celebrated with great pomp and show, the festival shows the rich religious, culture, tradition and grandeur of Kerala. The mouth watering dish, Onasadhya, where 20 -25 dishes are served on a single banana leaf is a must for the visitors. The famous boat race is held during this season.

They take pride in all such things and love to live a simple life. Kerala has highest literacy rate in India and the local people excel in studies as well as in other activities like music, art, sports and other activities. Most of the athletes in Indian sports team comes from Kerala itself. As the literacy rate is very high so language and communication is no problem at all, maximum no of people are able to speak and understand English very well, which is also an added advantage for the tourists who come from other parts of the world.
Lush Greenery of Kerala: Kerala is also famous for its lush greenery and other natural features like swaying coconut trees, banana trees, lush green paddy fields, evergreen dense forests, national parks, birds sanctuary, beautiful sandy beaches, beautiful backwater lakes surrounded by trees; evergreen and semi evergreen forests, and much more, all are the attractive features of the Kerala which put it on the map of world’s best tourism destinations.
